Ancient Corinth Private Tour

A private day trip to Corinth, 80 km from Athens, offers you enough flexibility to see all the main sites.

Acrocorinth the Golden City

When we reach the Isthmus of Corinth, we stop to marvel at the 6km long, manmade Corinth Canal. The Canal was a large-scale Greek construction between 1882 and 1893 to connect the Ionian Sea to the Saronic Gulf.

After you see the Canal, from the bridge above and take some extraordinary pictures, we continue our journey to Ancient Corinth, also called Acrocorinth “Upper Corinth,” the acropolis of ancient Corinth, built in the 7th century BC. Massive parts of its impressive fortification still stand today and are worth visiting.

The castle of Acrocorinth is a typical example of fortification architecture on the top of a hill. Corinth’s location with two ports, on the east and west, made it vulnerable to invaders, so it needed strong fortification to preventenemies from coming to Peloponnese.

Over the years, the Acrocorinth underwent changes and additions by the Romans and the Byzantines, the Franks, and the Ottomans.  What we see today is the remains from each conquest. This historical blend makes it one of the most significant Greek ancient sites.
